Learn how to Organize your Leggings like a pro (and Keep them that Way)

By in Uncategorized with 0 Comments

Leggings have become a go-to part of our every wardrobe, which means we have quite a few pairs. If you’ve been struggling to keep your leggings organized, here are the best tips to keep your closet clutter-free.

Wearing leggings daily for any reason other than workouts used to be a fashion no-no, unless you were a celebrity pairing them with a moto jacket while you grab a coffee and pretend not to notice the paparazzi.

Not anymore: leggings have evolved from being solely gym attire, becoming one of the most essential and versatile parts of our day-to-day wardrobe.

Keeping them organized can feel overwhelming with so many pairs in different colors, sizes, and lengths.

Here’s what to know about organizing your collection of leggings, whether you have just a few pairs or hundreds.

1. Why Do We Have So Many Leggings?

Life has changed, and people are coming to value comfort and function in their clothing.

Many workplaces allow more casual attire, knowing that comfortable employees are happier (and more productive).

In daily life, leggings are more comfortable than jeans, whether you’re taking your kids to the park or running errands. In addition, cute leggings are now a completely acceptable part of an outfit for socializing and casual dining.

As a result, it can be easy to keep buying cute leggings, and many of us have quite a few pairs. Maybe a lot.

And that’s okay; if it’s one of the clothing items you use the most, it isn’t a bad thing that they take up most of the real estate in your closet.

But it can be challenging to keep your leggings organized, so let’s discuss that next.

2. How to Keep Your Leggings Organized

If you love leggings, you might be wondering what the best way to organize them might be.

Regardless of how many pairs you have, it’s frustrating to dig through a drawer or pile to find the exact pair you’re looking for.

Luckily, there are easy ways to organize your leggings and keep them that way, eliminating all that hassle and chaos.

These are the ways pro stylists and organizing experts suggest keeping your leggings organized for good.

Fold and Store Differently

When it comes to folding leggings, we’ve all been frustrated and confused.

Sure, we were taught to fold our clothes and stack them horizontally in drawers or on shelves. But when it comes time to search for that certain pair of leggings, you disrupt the stack as you dig around (particularly when you’re in a hurry).

First, fold your leggings in half lengthwise, so one leg is on top of the other. Then, bring the ankles up to the waistband to fold them in half from bottom to top. Last, bring the folded edge of the knee portion up to the waistband, too.

This fold should form a neat square or rectangle that’s easier to store.

Use storage boxes to “file” them vertically. That way, you can see every pair and avoid making a mess!

Rolling

Rolling up leggings (or any article of clothing you typically fold) is a great alternative that may work better for you, depending on your storage preference.

First, fold your leggings in half by placing one leg over the other lengthwise. Then fold them in half again by bringing the ankle up to the waistband, so they are folded at the knee. Finally, just roll them up neatly to finish.

Use storage boxes inside drawers or on shelves to keep the rolled leggings upright.

Avoid stacking rolls on top of each other, as you won’t be able to see every pair and risk making the same kind of mess you would with horizontal stacking!

Hanging

While most of us only hang the most vulnerable clothes to wrinkling, hanging your leggings can be a game-changer when it comes to staying organized.

If you have the closet space to accommodate draping your leggings on individual hangers, great. But you can also find hangers with multiple tiers explicitly designed for storing bottoms, no matter what they are.

Multi-tiered hangers can typically store 6-12 pairs of leggings in just a few inches of real estate in your closet.

If you wear leggings more often than anything else, be sure to push your less-worn garments to the side of the closet that’s less visible and keep the items you wear most front and center.

3. Ways to Keep Organization Easy

Getting your leggings organized feels great, especially when you find a method that works best for you.

Keeping your leggings organized might be ticky, so here’s what you can do to maintain your organization method, whichever you choose.

Purge Regularly

Keeping your leggings organized becomes difficult if you’re buying more but never getting rid of anything.

It’s helpful to keep only the pairs that you actually use and make a regular habit of sorting out leggings that you don’t wear anymore.

Purging any clothing you haven’t worn in a while helps avoid the chaos of an overly cluttered closet, and you’ll be able to find what you need more easily.

You can donate the items you decide to let go, and most organizations will offer a receipt you can use to write off the donation when you do your taxes.

You might also consider selling leggings in good condition on websites and apps designed for fashion resale. It’s a bit more effort, but it can be a great way to make extra money.

Think Before Buying More

Everyone loves a good sale, but just because there’s a deal doesn’t mean that you need anything new.

Before you buy new leggings, ask yourself if you have anything similar already. Do you really like the leggings, or are you just excited about the price? Is there a specific reason you want or need them?

Continually buying more leggings can add up quickly and make organizing your closet that much more complicated.

Put Clean Laundry Away ASAP

Don’t let that clean laundry pile up.

The bigger the pile becomes, the more overwhelming it can seem to take on the task of putting away your leggings in an organized manner.

Try to plan ahead and do your laundry at a time when you’ll be able to complete the task and avoid a mountain of leggings on the floor.

Conclusion

While leggings may have become the most dominant part of your wardrobe, having many pairs shouldn’t be a source of stress when it comes to storing them.

These simple hacks can be a game-changer. Choose the right storage solution that’s right for you and commit to maintaining it in order to tame the chaos and find the pair you need!
